The best sump pump is the SmartSump, as it is specifically engineered to fit into the typically low, damp environment of the crawl space. Designed to work in conjunction with the CleanSpace system for an air-tight fit, the SmartSump not only pumps out water, but is smart enough to alert you to an indoor plumbing leak, which could go undetected for months in a crawl space. The water from the leak will flow to the SmartSump lid, pass through a channel and set off the WaterWatch alarm to alert you, continue into the air-tight floor drain and drain down into the SmartSump to be pumped away just like any ground water would be.

What Makes Up the SmartSump?
The SmartSump crawl space sump pump uses a high quality, 1/3 horsepower, cast-iron Zoeller pump with an automatic float switch. The sump pump cover and unique sump basin fit perfectly with the CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System, (vapor barrier), for an airtight seal.
If you're like most people who typically don't enter their crawl space, you need to know if there is a plumbing leak. The SmartSump's unique lid design has a built-in alarm that sounds if it comes in contact with water. Once the alarm sounds, the water then flows down a special airtight floor drain into the basin where it is pumped away. The drain is airtight so damp, musty air does not rise up into your crawl space. The alarm also alerts you to pump failure for any reason, including power outages. A knock-out hole is also available to accept the discharge from a crawl space dehumidifier.
Optional Battery Back-up Sump Pump Protection
The SmartSump is available with or without an optional UltraSump Battery Back-up pumping system. The UltraSump has a second pump in case of primary pump failure, a second switch, in case of switch failure, and second power source, in case of power failure.
The UltraSump can pump over 8,000 gallons of water out of your crawl space from the energy stored in the specially sealed, long-term, standby battery. It has a unique charging system that will automatically recharge as soon as the power is restored and an alarm to tell you this secondary pump is operating. This protection is optional, but highly recommended.
